Good news-Wally had a successful transplant and has returned to full duty.
Our Brother Wally Ching’s Story...
In May 2016, during his annual physical for the fire department, it was noticed that Wally's lab values were off. Upon further testing, it was discovered that Wally was in in acute Stage 5 kidney failure. Doctors were not clear as to what had caused the sudden onset, so they managed it with medicine for a few months, but in early November he started dialysis and was placed on the kidney transplant list. He currently is receiving dialysis treatment three times a week, and has had to leave active duty service for the Norfolk Fire Department. Fortunately, the Norfolk Fire administration was very helpful in assigning him to a light duty schedule where he can continue to serve.
Wally is a firefighter/paramedic with 18 years of service in the Norfolk Fire Department and over 30 years as a paramedic in several local jurisdictions. Please click on the link provided to follow this story and to find out how you can assist Wally.
